View of the Resort from across the Lake

Not far west of Bangkok is the Rose Garden Country Resort, an exceptionally well manicured lush tropical garden. The property is the brainchild of a former lord mayor of the capital. The resort and cultural centre are about 32 kilometres (20 miles) from the city towards the town of Nakhon Pathom on route 4.

And If you should continue a little bit further up the same road you’ll eventually arrive at the town of Kanchanaburi where you can take a legendary train trip across the Bridge on the River Kwai. But that’s another story entirely.

The large grounds of the landscaped gardens not only contain a vast range of roses and orchids, but also accommodation, restaurants, tennis courts, a golf court, (reputed to be one of the 25 best in the world) a kids playground, a swimming pool and an artificial lake where you can take a paddle boat ride.

Within the immaculate garden is a model Thai village showcasing the beautiful and intricate art of fruit carving, rattan basket weaving and other handicraft work that Thai’s are so famous for and popular among tourists. Go absolutely crazy. The gardens of the country resort are open daily from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm.

Cultural Show at the Rose Garden Country Resort

Rose Garden Traditional Thai Cultural Show

The chief attraction here is the daily traditional Thai cultural show held at 2:45 pm every afternoon. Packed into a large arena and lasting a full hour, beautifully costumed Thai actors demonstrate folk dancing with mock wedding ceremonies, Thai boxing, ancient sword fighting, cock fighting and other rural entertainment.

The entertainment doesn’t end after the cultural show as outside of the arena, elephants take over and put on a show of their own. They perform tasks such as lifting and moving huge teak logs around as they would do in the forested regions of northern Thailand.

Impromptu games of soccer and other forms of entertainment keep you amused for quite some time. You can also take a lovely leisurely ride around the compound on one of the elephants here if you so wish.
