Yummy Thai Shrimp Salad

Do you love Thai food and would love to learn all there is about Thai Cooking, but more importantly, perhaps you have some spare time while on vacation in Thailand. Why not take a journey to find out all there is to know about how Thai people cook their food and the various cookery schools there are in the country.

This would be a great opportunity for you to learn everything possible about this wonderful cuisine. After which, let’s prepare some yummy Thai food.

Although I have been a vegetarian for 42 years now, I also study, research, teach and practice the art of macrobiotics. Ever since I was a seven-year-old kid, I’ve been cooking for my family of nine. Apart from the cooking, I was also responsible for most of the shopping too.

I came from a large disciplinary family and we all had to pull our weight around the house. So it came as no surprise that I developed a love of cooking, but I hated having to wash the dishes afterwards.

I decided to make a career in the arts, but I do all my own cooking at home and sometimes I think I can prepare better food than most of the restaurants out there. A love of adventure, though, won’t allow me to stay in the kitchen for long. My first love will always be travel.

Well, enough blabbering about myself, let’s get on with it then. Shall we go to some of the schools first? By the way, many of these cooking schools are simply located in the many hotels all around Thailand themselves, so you could even consider this when making your hotel reservations. Below are three cookery schools in Bangkok. They are possibly the best to learn the art of Thai food.

Bangkok Cooking Schools

Should you be staying at the Oriental Hotel, then you could simply take your cooking class right here. Well, maybe not exactly at the hotel itself, but in the wooden building right across the Chao Phraya River on Charoen Krung Road

The school provides excellent hands-on tuition so that you can take all this fab knowledge and then prepare your very own Thai Recipes at home. The school is open Monday to Saturday from 9:00 am until 12 noon and costs $120 per lesson.

The Blue Elephant is a restaurant and a well-equipped cooking school in one, teaching you four dishes daily. You will get the chance to sample your own, as well as other Thai dishes created by the local chefs, right here in the restaurant.

The school is located in the heart of Bangkok, opposite Surasak Station (BST) and is open Mondays to Saturdays from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Prices range from 2,800 Baht for one day to 10,000 Baht for 5 days. Thai vegetarian cookery is also taught and private lessons can be taken in the evenings and on Sundays.

The Thai House is located 22 kilometres or 15 miles north from Bangkok at Amphoe Bang Yai in Nonthaburi and can be reached either by road or river. Pick-ups can easily be arranged from your hotel in the mornings and you will be returned to your hotel in the evenings.

The Thai cooking classes are held in an outdoor classroom surrounded by an orchard of mango, banana, papaya and coconut trees. The fresh herbs and spices used in the preparations of the recipes are grown on the premises. There are various courses to choose from.
